Coach Kellogg’s Return To Glory Tour Continues For UMass

It hadn’t happened since the 1995-96 season — UMass started out 5-0. It hadn’t happened since 1993 — UMass played a regular season game at the Cage. On Saturday, the men’s hoops team took their game and undefeated record  to the Cage.

Derrok Kellogg seems to be getting the pieces in place to make UMass basketball relevant on the national stage once again. The game at the Cage shows the core UMass basketball fans are ready to embrace this team.

As good as the season has started, thing are only going to get harder from here. First, the non-conference schedule will increase in difficulty. Once the Atlantic 10 schedule kicks off, UMass will need to put together better full 40 minute performances. Thus far, the team has been largely streaky and inconsistent except during the TCU game in Springfield.

This young Minutemen team will get what should be there toughest test of the young season with their first road game of the season on Wednesday. On that day, the Minutemen have a 7 p.m. tip in Hamden, Conn., to face Quinnipiac.
